When Chester Gregory stole the hearts of women everywhere in his portrayal of Jackie Wilson years ago, it was apparent to all who experienced his performance that he was truly a vessel to convey the life & work of one of American Soul music's pioneers. Another point of interest was whether he would revisit the Wilson catalogue in the future during his own journey as a solo artist. In true "Chess" fashion, he answers that question in 2012 with a resounding, musical, "YES." "To Be Loved" was co-written by Tyran Carlo and Barry Gordy of the later-formed Motown Empire, musically directed by Milton Delugg, and originally released in 1957 on vinyl via Brunswick Records. This updated reimagining stays very tied to its roots, while giving a modernistic choral arrangement that is a signature affect in Gregory's vocal production style. If you can't give this one two thumbs up, I'd say check your thumbs. Enjoy!
