I love when hard work and knowing positive people pay off. And I love knowing that my alma mater, LaGuardia High School, has so many great people who continue to support my work through the years. One such alumni friend is currently a member of the BET Network in charge of their critically acclaimed Music Matters artist showcase. Some of the dopest fresh artists on the scene now have gotten great performance experience & notoriety through their regional and national touring program (Miguel, Kendrick Lamar, and Bridget Kelly, to name a few), and several Music Matters veterans have gained National TV exposure on widely-watched series such as BET's 106 & Park (including my brother in music, Olamide Faison). So when my friend approached me awhile back and insisted that I be a part of the Music Matters experience, it hurt to have to tell him no, being that I was knee-deep in post-Sandy home repairs.
However, what a difference a year makes.
Fast forward to earlier this winter, when my friend & I finally locked in a date & time for me to be part of the Music Matters lineup. I am truly honored & super excited to share my work with some fresh ears, as well as see what opportunities present themselves with this milestone. It's a short set (3 songs), as I will be joined by several other amazing artists on the bill, but BET does not disappoint when it comes to putting great performers together on one stage for this showcase. I'm sending the word out to all my friends, family, and fans to make your way out to SOB's on Tuesday, March 11th; join me as I take this next fearfully wonderful step in my journey. You have my promise that your great energy and support will not go in vain. Can't wait to see you; it's gonna be one hell of a night!
