P.'s Proposal: The Journal of Wonders (Album) - Lenny Harold

Often times, when an artist has had a run of success in the three-ringed circus that is the mainstream music industry, they thirst for more of it, and in many cases will do whatever it takes to hold on to it. Similarly, when that success has been compromised or has faded, said artist will go into hiding or their own form of exile, feeling that they are no longer of value to the world at large as an entertainer. However, the artists who are able to use their experiences as part of the whole picture to then create something even greater on their own are the ones we all need to be aware of and support. One such artist is Lenny Harold, and the creation is his album, "The Journal of Wonders {Tale of the phoenix in the moon labyrinth}."

For those wondering, yes, Lenny Harold is the crazy SANGIN brutha formerly known as Chanj. You can find the famous clip of him at the Apollo Theatre ripping into some Floery HERE. Now using a derivative of his real name, Lenny is taking the indie scene by storm with his latest full-length LP. From start to finish, the album is a journey into the experimental world of rock-R&B-soul-Pop fusion music, not really having a set direction, and thus forming its own unique sound that is both infectious and captivating. Executive producer Cass Maya spares no creative expense in cultivating a feeling & mood for each record. Cuts like "It's Not OK" and "Helpless" show off the avant-garde chord progressions and EQ'ing concepts, while songs like "Voodoo" and "Love At The End" take a more simplistic approach and provide the listener with the provocative and uplifting feelings that are to be expected from a skilled vocalist like Harold. By the end of the album, you're left with a sense that you've just taken a ride on a very tall ferris wheel, with varying speeds and a breathtaking view at the top. The question to be asked, then, is whether to get off, or pay the carny in charge for another go-round; I say go for it - you may find that, like me, "The Journal of Wonders" grows on you more with each listen. In closing, you'd be doing yourself a big musical favor by picking up this project. Yes, of course I will provide the links, what kind of guy would I be if I didn't :-) ?
