This beautiful 3-church Catholic organization has become like a second home for me - literally and figuratively. Over the past several months, the wonderful folks on staff and the community at large have welcomed me with open arms; they are so much fun to work & make music with. While certainly allowing me the freedom to work on my own material, the job has really enhanced my musicianship, and it isn't hard at all to find the joy in the work.

This season, the parish's main site, Our Lady of Victory, celebrates its 150th Anniversary as a church in the Diocese of Brooklyn. As part of the series of fundraising events we've planned, on Saturday, October 28th, we will be welcoming acclaimed Jazz vocalist Tulivu, a Brooklyn native AND an alumnus of the former OLV Elementary School! Accompanied by her outstanding band, Seasoned Elegance, Tulivu will be gracing us with a few hours of her favorite numbers as part of our Jazz Cafe. You know I only promote an event where I'm not featured if I'm confident it will be an awesome time, and your support allows for St. Martin de Porres to continue to be a thriving part of the Historic Bedford Stuyvesant community.

The basics:
Tickets are $45 online, $55 at the doors, the event begins at 7pm.
There will be an open bar, and light refreshments will be served.
If you would like to purchase your ticket now: CLICK HERE.

Thank you, as always for your support, and I will see you on 10.28!
anti-fearism: coming soon.tag:pmurraymusic.com,2017-09-04:5545672:BlogPost:265022017-09-04T15:57:00.000ZP.

I’ve talked about Lil’ Eddie several times over the course of my career, having had the privilege of meeting him back in 2008-9 via several networking events in New York City. I’m convinced he’s one of the most talented singer/songwriters in the business, and his track record proves my point in spades, as it includes highly touted work with JoJo, El Debarge, Mya, Lalah Hathaway, and Jessie J. “All I See” is a song Eddie penned for “X,” the tenth studio album from international Pop superstar Kylie Minogue which she released in the fall of 2007. He released his own version of the single on the album, “City Of My Heart,” in 2009. Per his blessing earlier this year, I finally got around to doing this reinterpretation of the hit, and I think you’ll enjoy the end result.

Feel free to share this with the tag #WhosAroundUs on whichever social media suits you, knowing that I fully appreciate your support, as always.
To say that I'm excited about this next show is an understatement. The legendary Bitter End has been so good about having me perform on their historic stage, and I do not take lightly the opportunity to share my gifts there. As the flyer suggests, I'm doing a different arrangement for these songs (originals + covers), and there are several friends that I'll be bringing up to sing with me - can't tell you who, gotta keep the suspense! Plus, my very good friend and colleague, Lenny Harold, will be blessing the mic with his new single, "Stop Time." Trust me, if you haven't heard it, it's a banger. A song about a breakup on Valentine's Day? How totally me

There isn't much to say about this cover, except that I am a huge fan of Sara Bareilles, and the original record spoke very deeply to me and some of my recent [almost] relationship[s]. I think anyone who has been through a tough breakup can understand what it's like to associate feelings for that person with a particular time & place. Of course, if you live in New York City, I'm convinced these feelings are that much more pronounced. There's nothing quite like crying into your soup over your ex at the 4-star restaurant in the Flatiron District where you both used to enjoy having dinner.

Please, feel free to like, share, repost, and download this cover at your convenience. When you do, be sure to use the tag #HalfofTwo. As always, I appreciate all your support. Whatever your relationship status this Valentine's Day, I wish you all health, happiness, and as much love as your heart can hold. Thank you.
P.'s Politics: Charlie Hebdo - Some Perspectivetag:pmurraymusic.com,2015-01-10:5545672:BlogPost:208232015-01-10T12:12:03.000ZP. Murrayhttp://pmurraymusic.com/profile/pmurraymusic

As promised, here is the second mashup for the month of November. I've actually had this one on the back burner for some time, but was looking for the right time to release it. I'm proud to say that the lovely Bridget Kelly is a friend & colleague of mine, and a fellow graduate of F.H. LaGuardia HS of Music & Art and the Performing Arts. Both versions of this record (BK's and Frank's) have their own nuances and provocative qualities, so I figured an extra verse and some keyboards/background vocals could be a nice touch to an already exceptional song. I hope you think so, too.

Being a fan & colleague of both Luke James and Melanie Fiona, I couldn't help but notice the dope similarities that existed between certain cuts off of their most recent albums. Specifically, I saw alot of musical & lyrical relationships that occurred when doing some side-by-side playback of "4am," from Melanie's LP, "The MF Life," and "Glass House," off of Luke's debut self-titled album. The idea struck me almost instantaneously; why not do a crazy, big-sounding mashup of the two records? So, of course, I went right to work. With a little tempo tweaking, added synths in the right places, and some choral commentary from yours truly, I was able to come up with something I really liked.

The end result is what you hear, here.

I hope you all enjoy the 1st of two remix/mashup releases this month, while I continue to finalize edits on my upcoming LP. Please continue to support Luke James & Melanie Fiona, as they are not only exceptional artists and singers, but also wonderful people with tons of positive energy. I tend to throw my cosign behind creators if I know the latter of the two is true, and after hanging out with them both several times, I can tell you that they really are great individuals. As always, keep checking back with me for music & updates. And thank you so much for your continued support. If you like, share with the tag #4AMATGH

The single "With or Without You" is, without a doubt, one of U2's most successful singles of their long, prolific career. What's interesting about this song is that during the creative + recording process, band members and producers alike were so confused and divided as to how they wanted the record to sound, that it was one executive decision away from being scrapped completely. It was only after The Edge (Guitar) added a two-take insert using his recently received 'Infinite Guitar' on top of the tracking that the "A-Ha" moment occurred. The end result is the smash hit we know & love today.

Being the adopted son of an Irish family, U2 albums were a staple in my home, and, of course, "With Or Without You" was - and remains - one of my favorite records. I wanted to reimagine it in a way that reflected how I've always heard the song in my head: anthemic, profound, and expansive. I covered the song once at an open mic, and officially at my 2014 performance at Billie's Black in NYC. While I had been toying with the idea of putting out a cover version of the record, it was the response I got at Billie's that confirmed my suspicions that if all the parts came together, my end result of the single could really be something special.

I hope you like my take on a timeless Pop classic as much as I loved recreating it. Feel free to 'Like', share, repost, and reblog to your heart's content, using the hashtag #GiveYourselfAwae. I've decided to allow the free download right here, so unless the Industry powers that be intervene, the song is yours. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your continued love + support.
In the winter of 2008, recording artist Brandy released her 5th studio album, 'Human.' The LP went on to sell over 200,000 copies, and while it was criticized for not being able to match her previous blockbuster releases, its music has been critically acclaimed as some of her most provocative & gratifying to date, even in the wake of her more recent, commercially driven project, 'Two Eleven.' In my opinion, 'Human' is a testament to both her musicality and her willingness to succumb to her love of the recorded song, and still one of my favorites from her.

The idea for "A Capella (original title has one 'P.')" was conceived by singer/songwriter 'TC.' The song was, in many ways, TC's industry debut as a creative & diverse writer/vocal arranger. Upon my first listen, I was blown away by his attention to detail, commitment to contrapuntal movement, and overall soundscaping; I was hooked. TC has since gone on to release a prolific number of original records & highly popular remixes to some of Billboard's top-charting songs over the past 5 years, in addition to working with the likes of Tamar Braxton, Demi Lovato, and The Backstreet Boys. In a sense, this cover is my show of appreciation for his work, and it is my hope that it does the original record some justice.

Feel free to share this music with your friends/colleagues/network; if you could do me a solid and hashtag #GoingNCircles when you do, I'd really appreciate it. I have a few more covers in my back pocket to accompany your Summer soundtrack, so I hope you'll stay tuned for music & updates as the season progresses. One such alumni friend is currently a member of the BET Network in charge of their critically acclaimed Music Matters artist showcase. Some of the dopest fresh artists on the scene now have gotten great performance experience & notoriety through their regional and national touring program (Miguel, Kendrick Lamar, and Bridget Kelly, to name a few), and several Music Matters veterans have gained National TV exposure on widely-watched series such as BET's 106 & Park (including my brother in music, Olamide Faison).
--A.C. Williams

It's been awhile since I blogged about...well, anything. And as you all know, I try to reserve my reviews for stuff I really think my friends/fam/fans should be hearing. The project in question comes at a pointed moment in music, and a poignant moment in my own life, suffice to say that its original release was canceled and the music shelved indefinitely. But, like the wind, when singer/writer/producer B.Slade decides to sweep in - in his case, with some hot new tunes - we're going to feel it, regardless of whether or not we're prepped for it. Case in point: this latest LP, "My September Issue."

As previously noted by Slade himself, "My September Issue" is what he would consider to be some his most honest and vulnerable work, taking the listener through a 16-track semi-autobiographical account of the demise of one of his relationships. In other words, yes, this is the musical prodigy's "Breakup" album. Considering his prior work has defied both genre and content standards, this kind of "close-to-the-chest," emotionally charged subject matter almost unintentionally steps outside of the B.Slade idiom, allowing the listener to not only hear about a deeply personal life experience, but actually be a part of the several phases of a breakup. Lies, anger, denial, rejection, depression; all are very raw, physiological reactions to the untimely conclusion of an intimate partnership, and all are present - almost in that order - on this LP. Only when reach the end of this project are we treated to some personal reflection, meditation, and ultimately, healing, bringing us - and B.Slade - to the end of this almost Kübler-Ross-like journey.

For those who have been B.Slade fans for some time (present company included), and for newer listeners, fear not: while the topic of this album is a more novel one for the artist, all of the great musical aspects that make said artist the critically acclaimed musician he is are present. You can expect to find the usual suspects here, including vocal harmonic structure that is both lush and aggressively omnipresent, off-the-wall + sumptuous production, and, of course, some of the most skillful & fiery singing you've ever heard. What I've found with "My September Issue" that sets it apart from B.'s earlier work is the strenuous and exemplary commitment to percussion and melody. Not that we haven't gotten great beats or vocal lines from him before, but "September" seems to use both very singable top lines and virtually tribal kick-drum patterns as the sonic super-glue that holds this piece together (ironic, considering the content is describing in detail how B.Slade practically almost fell apart during the end of the relationship in question). I've found myself singing along to most of the records while simultaneously doing the one-foot-stomp to the track; in the words of Martha Stewart, "it's a good thing."

I mentioned before that "My September Issue" comes at a poignant moment in my life, as the quote at the top of this piece - and the music - are ringing true for people who are in my close circle right now. While I myself am (dare I say it) blissfully unattached for many years, this breakup album has, if nothing else, provided me with a much clearer picture of what a rocky relationship - and its demise - feels like from the inside. Almost too clear, in fact. Upon listening, you may find your heartstrings being pulled in directions you thought you had closed after an emotional breakup of your own. You might even have to grab a few plates to break after listening to "Hatfield McCoy," or stopping what your doing to take in the full scope of "Six Years Old," or grab a few tissues to wipe away some eye-water while experiencing "All I Got Is Me." But this is the essence of true artistry; to be able to capture these kinds of feelings and present them in a tangible way that satiates the artist's need for emotional release, and provides the listener with some closure of their own.

In short, "My September Issue" does exactly what it sets out to do: tell an ages-old story through a personal trial, using great music and authentic poetry. And true, while the title artfully deceives us into thinking this is an editorial work rather than a musical piece of B.Slade's history, it would be hard to deny that, were it solely a written contribution, it would be a shoe-in for a slew of literary awards & accolades. I don't think I'd be remiss in paraphrasing one of our most popular MC's and business moguls, Sean "Jay-Z" Carter:

"Man, and I tell ya it'd be a best seller."

To review full credits for "My September Issue," and purchase: Click Here

You can follow B.Slade on Twitter @BSLADE
P.'s Proceedings: #Bakk2Blacktag:pmurraymusic.com,2013-11-29:5545672:BlogPost:196752013-11-29T20:30:00.000ZP.

With the recent lottery jack pot values seeming to climb ever higher in the hundreds of millions, one can't help but wonder what life would be like if we hit those mystical numbers. Singer/Songwriter Lydia Caesar gives us a fun glimpse into how her life might change in her new video for her single, "Lottery." While riches are nice, Ms. Caesar's lyrics remind us that love, in all its glory, is far more important than money ever could be. It's not about how much you have, but who you want to share it with. I'm totally digging the songstress' effervescent, sassy visuals, and strong character choices for her shots. If you haven't fallen in love with this wonderful artist, "Lottery" gives you a **wealth** of reasons why now is a great time to start. Pun intended.

You can follow Lydia Caesar on Twitter: @LydiaCaesar

Visit Lydia's Official Website: Click here.
P.'s Vids: "Out on The Ledge" - Steff Reedtag:pmurraymusic.com,2013-08-03:5545672:BlogPost:192502013-08-03T21:30:00.000ZP. How aerial acrobatics tie into suggestive religious zeal, occult symbology, and a Judas-complex plotline is a task that is definitely beyond my ken. However, the ability to do so was not missed by producer-turned-artist Steff Reed, in the 1st official video for his debut single, "Out on The Ledge," part of his upcoming EP, "The Intervention." Reed is clearly trying to expiate demons called forth via past experiences from both his personal and professional life. Whatever anger & anguish that have plagued his psyche as of late, he certainly makes it known that they have brought him dangerously close to this ledge. Has he lost all hope? Will he be able to find solace? To quote a popular phrase, is this the end for our artistic hero, or just the beginning of a metamorphosis? Only time will tell, but "Out on The Ledge" will certainly leave you guessing as well as wanting more. I'm very happy + proud of my friend & colleague at this milestone in his career, and looking forward to what's next for him. I hope you'll support him as well!

Can a music video still make you feel? Can a music video still be a love song? It's a question that I'm sure even the most celebrated artists & directors are asking, even as they are still able to garner the budgets & man-power needed to put together the kind of polished, high-quality visual performances expected of today's stars. However, as has been evidenced by some of the empty artistry on the mainstream media rotation within the past decade, it is very plausible to have a music video that contains all these preconceived prerequisites and still leave the viewer emotionally numb. One wonders, at times, where the next group of creators will be coming from that seeks to break this odd stereotype. Enter into the fray Ro James, and his latest video, "Devil's Kiss."

Keeping in line with his film noir motif from his prior release, "Pledge Allegiance," and working once again with exemplary director Sarah McColgan, alongside photography director Eric Schneider & Edited by Anna Gerstenfeld, "Devil's Kiss" is both a musical and visual home-run for James. While the song itself has a very steady pace, the video manages to find its own set of rhythms, creating a sort of balancing act bewtween scenic cinematography and the more frantic, stressful cut-aways to the tension between Ro and his love interest. Keeping in line with his #Jackets solidarity, our protagonist is rarely seen without it in this video, and, keeping true to the title of his overall creative theme, he is also seldom shot without a bottle of Jack Daniels' whisky in hand. Add in a healthy dose of musical performance (accompanied by a sensual all-female band) and a few shots of communal shot-taking with some older leather jackets, and you have the makings of a finely tuned visual musical instrument.

If you enjoyed this, comment, like, share.
